Holiday Treats

Ghiradelli peppermint brownies

We love baking-especially at this time of year.  (Incase you didn't realize by now, the three of us have  BIG sweet tooth) There's always a cookie swap, a cookie decorating party, a house party where we want to bring something, or something going on where we get to bake something fun.  This year, we wanted to bake some goodies for our neighbors and we found this delish recipe online that we wanted to share with you from http://www.allrecipes.com/  They fun and festive and absolutely perfect for the holiday season.  Its also something fun for the whole family to do together.  Hope you enjoy :)

Ghiradelli peppermint brownies

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Ghirardelli 100% Cacao Unsweetened Chocolate baking bar, broken or chopped into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups granulated white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (5.32 ounce) bag Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate with White Mint Filling Squares™, unwrapped
  • 4 small candy canes, crushed

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch square baking pan with cooking spray and dust with flour, tapping out any excess.
  2. In the top of a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl over barely simmering water, melt the unsweetened chocolate and butter, stirring occasionally until smooth. Cool to room temperature
  3. In a large bowl with an electric mixer or whisk, beat the eggs, sugar, vanilla, peppermint extract, and salt until combined. Beat in the chocolate mixture. Gently stir in the flour. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until a tester inserted into the brownies comes out clean. Arrange the mint squares on top in one layer and return the brownies to the oven until they are just melted, about 1 minute. Evenly spread the chocolate with a spatula and sprinkle with the crushed candy canes. Cool completely before cutting into 2-inch squares.

Get Your Glam On

OK CLC Gems - we have a huge treat for you today!!  The weekend is here, its December, we're sure you have some holiday parties to hit.  We were able to get some great makeup tips from pro makeup artist Alvin Austria to help you get your glam on and make those heads turn at your party :)

By:  Alvin Austria

It’s that time of the year again! Here are some makeup tips to create that perfect look for this holiday season:

1) Make sure the skin is well moisturized this winter season.
For dry skin, use a cream moisturizer instead of a light facial lotion to give it an extra boost of hydration.
For oily skin, use an oil controlling lotion to moisturize the skin, leaving it with a matte finish.

2) Use a makeup primer after the moisturizer and before foundation.  This will fill in fine lines, pores, and smooth out your skin’s texture. It will lock in moisture and also help the foundation stay on
longer throughout the day.
Also, prime the eyelids with an eye primer before eyeshadow. This will prevent it from creasing.

3) Whether it’s a softer look or more dramatic, adding some shimmer or metallic colors to the eyes is the best way to go!
Gold and silver are always on trend for the holiday season.
Use an eyeliner on the top and bottom of the eyes to give it more of a definition and a sultry look.
Also adding some shimmer to the inner corner of the eyes will open up the eyes and separate them.
And if you want to add more flare, use false lashes.
Remember to choose to play up either the eyes or the lips as the main focus feature.
Dramatic smoky eyes = Neutral lips.
Neutral eyes = Bold Lips.

4) Bronzers can also be used in the winter season. Lightly dust bronzer on the temples and cheeks to give a subtle glow.
Apply highlighters on top your cheek bones (and underneath the arch of the eyebrows) to give some luminescence and dewiness to the skin.

5) Bold, RED lips always look amazing for the holiday season! For those people who are not used to wearing a bright, red lip color, I always tell my clients that it’s 20% color, and 80% confidence.
To get the perfect red lip, apply a thin layer of either foundation or concealer around the edges of the lip, then use a lip liner to define the lips and also fill in the lips with the liner and the lipstick so the color will stay on longer.

Key Elements

Crystals are a key element in a lot of our designs - the same holds true for the beautiful intricate designs you see in the world famous Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.  They just aired their 2011 show last week and of course the show fulfilled our visual and creative appetite.  Victoria's Secret has a major collaboration with Swarovski Crystal Elements.  The majority of their designs use these crystals because of their high brilliance and shine. The one design that caught our eye was donned by the beautiful Alessandra Ambrosia.  She wore a stunning fan shaped  pair of wings along with jewelry that reminded us of our own designs.

Here is a great video clip we saw of behind the scenes footage of the designers and their use of Swarovski crystal elements.  You'll be amazed at the intricate details of these pieces.  It really got our creative juices flowing!!!

Holiday Dress Tips

December is here!!!  That means tons of holiday parties and chances to dazzle and shine.   We wanted to share some great tips on how to look fab during your holiday party.  Ready..Set..Go!!

- Add Sparkle - add some element of sparkle to your outfit.  You can use a sequins blazer, a skirt, sequins tank top, or even a full on sequins dress - bling it! Or maybe if too much flash isn't your style, use cardigans with rhinestone buttons to dress up your look.

- Textured fabrics- velvet is a lush wintery fabric - wear a great velvet blazer with a flirty mini skirt or you can even don a velvet pant for a menswear inspired look that's all the rage this season.  Lace and satin  are other great options to dress up your look

- Don't underestimate accessories! If you've never had a chance to wear those Christian Louboutin look a like glitter shoes (don't judge - we actually own a pair) - this is your chance

- Wear that "Gossip Girl" sequined headband you've been dying to wear

- Add a big statement necklace to your sheath dress - this instantly changes your look from day to night

- Use brooches - these jewelry pieces are so versatile - we'll have to write up a whole new blog entry on the different ways to use brooches but here are a few quick ones.  Use a brooch to secure a pretty pashmina around your holiday dress - especially since this time of year is a bit nippy.  Use a brooch as a decorative hairpiece

 - And here's your secret weapon to a fool proof holiday outfit in case none of the above suits your taste- add pearls.  Nothing exudes glamour, sophistication, and elegance the way pearls do. Whether its a single long strand, a choker style necklace, a pearl bauble bracelet, pearl stud earrings, they all add a beautiful element to your holiday attire.

Hope you find these tips helpful!!! xoxo

Pretty Packaging

Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving!!  The time between thanksgiving and the holidays is always such a whirlwind.  You always think you have enough time to buy presents, decorate, plan holiday parties but the holidays always sneak up way faster than expected.  For us we love, love, love the holidays - not only because its the season of giving but because its one of the few times all 3 of us sisters get together.  Its usually only 1 or 2 weeks that we have together, but its always a lot of fun.

Of course one of the highlights of our trip is seeing each other's faces as we open each other's Christmas presents.      Not only do we put a lot of thought into our presents for each other, but we put a lot of thought into our wrapping.  Think - Martha Stewart.  We wanted to share some great ideas with you to make your holiday presents extra special this year.  A little bling doesn't hurt :)

1) Brooches - these make great accent pieces and can be used instead of a shiny bow, plus your loved one can use it!  double bonus!
2) Rhinestones  - can be glued onto pine cones, on the center of poinsettias, and other Christmas decor you have laying around
3) Shiny wrapping paper makes a statement in itself.
4) Fabric - lace/velvet or any other textured fabric  - adds an unexpected yet beautiful element to your gift wrap.  Pair this with plain paper to really pop.

Key Layering Pieces

Layering Effect

During these fall and soon to be winter months where layering is key, here are some essential layering pieces to make sure you have in your wardrobe (listed from top to bottom as pictured above)

1) the chunky knit cable - this versatile piece adds a lot of texture to many outfits.

2) a notice me piece - a sparkly top, preferably cropped and boxy so its roomy enough to layer

3) cropped jacket - this is such an important piece in everyone's wardrobe.  it dresses up an outfit without looking too stuffy.  It also adds dimension to your outfit so you don't come off too frumpy.  Some great fabrics for this piece are tweed, herringbone, wool - all provide warmth and structure to any outfit

4) oversized cardigan - a great cardigan that drapes well looks effortless and comfortable

5) a statement necklace - such as our dominga necklace adds another dimension to any outfit.  (http://www.cayetanolegacy.com/dominga_cocoa.php)

6) relaxed vest - this piece is great because it can be worn all year round.  but during these colder months, this relaxed style would look great with a long sleeve fitted shirt

7) long sleeve tee - this is probably the foundation of all layering pieces  - a good quality longsleeve tee - you can get this in different neck types but scoop neck and boat neck are the most versatile.  This is something you can probably invest in a few different colors since it can be worn with so many different outfits

Layering Effect

Olivia Palermo -stylista well known for her innate fashion sense

You are all probably just as confused as we are with this wacky fall weather. One day we're having a snowstorm and the next its 70 degree weather.  Just when we cleaned out our closets and put away our summer clothes, the sun decides to melt the snow away make a strong appearance.

This is why layering is always the best fashion solution.  Layering gives a casual-cool vibe, aside from being very practical.  It forces us to create new combination with old clothes.  It allows us to mix different seasons of clothes and increasing the chances of a whole new look without spending extra money on a whole new wardrobe.

Here are a few tips on how to work the look.

- Mix textures - chunky cable knits are all the rage right now.  mix this with lightweight simple tops underneath so they don't compete with each other or look too bunchy.  way cool tights with geometric designs are also in season - these would be great to layer with a cool boho dress and a furry vest.  Get creative!

- Pair dressy with casual - we're girls, we can't help it, shiny things catch our eye - whether its a sequins tank top, an embellished blazer, or even sequins shorts.  Sometimes we don't have parties every weekend to wear it to, so - instead of waiting for that perfect moment - wear it on a regular day - pair those with laid back finds, use skinny jeans or leggings to tone down an embellished top.  Use a cotton tee with dolman sleeves or an off the shoulder cotton tee to compliment sequins shorts.

- Show off your waist - having a lot of layers adds bulk to our outfits - a great tip to help avoid looking frumpy is to add a great belt.  You can use this over a cardigan and a dress.  It helps give your look a polished finish.

Green with Envy

By Karen:

My absolute favorite design thus far is the Irene jade necklace which is part of our Holiday collection.

http://www.cayetanolegacy.com/irene_jade.php

I love the rich hue of emerald green - the jewel tone looks so luxe and adds the perfect pop of color to any outfit.  In fact, as i write this in my sweats at 11pm at night, i'm wearing my emerald green jewel button earrings surrounded by cubic zirconia baguettes - think Jackie O ish.

As i wait for my request to join pinterest to be accepted, i decided to create a polyvore board with my favorite green things.  Of course we had to include my faves - fur, snakeskin, and beautiful jewelry.

5 Tips to Build a Jewelry Wardrobe

Yes, we always see articles on how to build our wardrobe and personal style, but here's a fun article we came across that teaches us how to build our JEWELRY wardrobe.  Ali Galgano is the founder of a great jewelry website charmandchain.com .  If you like our http://www.cayetanolegacy.com/ collection, then you'll like her picks.  In the latest article of People StyleWatch, Ali takes us through what we need.

Here's a recap:

- Start with gold earrings - "they go with nearly every outfit and flatter all skin tones and faceshapes!"
- Go for a statement necklace - Look for pieces that have  "bring-down-the-house impact!"  Hello!!  can we say CLC?  :)
- Mix and match bracelets - "Its all about layering..."
- Collect personal pieces - "Find things you like wearing daily.."
- Try a trend - "The must haves for fall are....necklaces in gold tones with brown, deep blue, and green accents."
